Carlos v Malaga is a small hotel which offers exactly what it advertises; a simple, clean, good priced room right in the heart of the old town. I stayed in some other small hotels in different cities of Spain, this one is probably one of the best with it's friendly, English speaking staff. I stayed in a good sized single room with a nice bathroom. As my room was facing to a space between buildings, it was silent, especially important if you are staying during the weekend. I didn't really mind not having a view because when you're in Malaga it doesn't make much sense to spend your days inside. There is a cafe right across the hotel, so breakfast is really no problem at all. Free WiFi in the rooms is something I always appreciate.
Nothing has happened to my mobile phone, camera or to the cash I had to leave in the room but it would have been nice to have a safe anyway. There was no reception on my mobile phone inside the building but I am not sure the hotel has anything to do with that. Inside the shower, there is not a single flat surface for a shampoo bottle or soap to stand on. If there was, showering would have been much more practical.
The staff were lovely . The situation was excellent.
We felt that a fridge was essential in the climate. A place to keep drinks cold. We didn't feel the need for a television so the fridge could have replaced that. We thought that a double room meant a double bed and the twin ones slid all over the place !! No matter!
Very good location a regular choice for us.
The location was excellent (very close to the cathedral and all the main sights) and the hotel offered good value for money. I would stay there again.
The walls between the rooms are a bit thin so sometimes you can hear the people in adjoining rooms.
The hotel is much improved from when we last visited 2-3 years ago, when it was in need of a refurb. The AirCon. worked, the beds were comfy. The upper rooms are brighter than the lower ones.
It was fine for an overnight stay, probably wouldn't want to stay longer as the rooms are not large.
Excellent location for all city centre sites (Cathedral, museums, castle, gardens, shopping - beach accessible but not quite so close) - very clean - staff very professional. Hard to get better value for money. WiFi worked perfectly (unlike for other reviewers).
Nothing - perfect for us.
The appartment was more than appropriate. However, the staff was entirely friendly, I spoke spanish with them - hence you might face some challenges to communicate with them in english.
However, ask for a room with view to the street, otherwise you could get a room like I had with an outlook to a wall.
Brilliant staff particularly the kind efficient and considerate Pedro, who went out of his way to sort out some worries given that I lost my credit card on the bus trip into Granada. Whatever was needed to do, he did. The hotel´s position is outstanding in relation to transport to and from bus station, the Alhambra, shopping and food. Small but spotlessly clean and cared for room. My room towards the back was absolutely quiet.Paying a few extra Euros for an excellent breakfast, especially if you are checking out and need to get away, is well worth it.
the hotel is located perfect in Malage to explore the city, fruthermore a great offer for car park just around the corner of the hotel
some of the walls are very "thin", so can hear every single word of your neighbours, during night is very annoying
The personnel at this hotel is extremely friendly and helpful which made my stay in this interesting and lively city even more pleasant. A perfect location of the hotel to do the sightseeing, too. Definitely a great place to stay at!
The location is perfect for a short stay to explore Malaga, it is in the same street as the cathedral, at the foot of the Alcazaba, and just on the edge of the old town. The hotel is basic and economical.
I cannot understand all the negative reviews about the rooms here. Yes we had a window which looked out into a box of 4 walls, yes, we had a shower, instead of a bath, yes, our room could have been bigger, yes we heard "bed shaking" followed by "ooh" and "aah" noises in the middle of the night....But the cheap price and the fantastic location easily accessible to main tourist locations and 10 minutes to beach made it our best holiday ever. We were only there in the hotel to have a good night's sleep and we got it!
Do not allow your passport to be held by them apparently to "photocopy". They take more than 30 minutes and say they will bring it back to your room. Why can they not do this in front of you?! The "old grumpy man" mentioned by others, was there. When I insisted that I want to be there and cannot let my passport out of sight, he said - fine, I will give it back when I am done. For more than 10 minutes, he kept laughing and chatting on phone, and I went back to my room frustrated. I had to go downstairs 30 minutes later. The entire incident left me with an uncomfortable feeling and I would request others to challenge this procedure and not let it happen. Somethings were strange. For instance there was an opened condom wrapper in the middle of the floor at the reception one morning! Not something you would expect in a decent hotel reception. I made a joke about it to the receptionist and left the hotel. To my astonishment it was still lying exactly the same place on the floor when we returned at night!
This is an excellent hotel with great location just stones thrown away from la alcazaba (around the corner), the cathedral (20 mts away), Pablo Picasso's musseum (3 min walk). The staff is very helpful and welcoming and there is wifi included with a very good and strong signal. Clean, cheap, and within the old town close to all the main attractions and to the best tapas in town! What else do you want?!
The location was perfect - 30 m away from the Alcazaba and on the other direction 100 m from the cathredral - in front of the hotel possiblity for a good breakfast or lunch. Room was clean, airco ok, bathroom ok - but no fridge. There was a window, but gave sight on 3 walls - again as solo traveller people receive theless convenient rooms of a hotel. The people at the reception were friendly and informative after asking questions, but they were not very informative by arrival.
I missed a fridge. For the rest it was ok.
The location was fantastic and the staff were about the best I experienced across four different hotels I stayed in during my trip. They were so friendly and helpful, spoke great English (I don't expect this, I was in Spain so tried to do my best speaking Spanish I promise) but they were so welcoming and never made me feel bad that they had to speak English when my appalling Spanish failed. Please do pass this on to the reception staff as they do deserve to know how they made such a great impression on me. I also want to mention even the housekeeping staff who, when I met them, were full of smiles and hellos, they made a lot of difference. Re the hotel, great location. I do feel that the rooms could do with a bit of modernisation, even just a paint job to brighten them up. The beds are very hard too - but then this was great value, and I'd booked solely on location, not cost, so I don't want to over emphasise this.
The only thing that I could comment on was the decor which was very tired and old fashioned. Even just white paint and new brighter bedlinen would make a huge difference.
